When I set out to create this piece for Billy's run at the Ionia County Fairgrounds, I wanted to capture the specific feeling of that place—the intersection of hardworking Americana and something otherworldly. Billy's music does the same thing; it's rooted in deep tradition but launches into cosmic, psychedelic spaces. I envisioned the classic red barn doors of a livestock pavilion, weathered from years of sun and seasons. But instead of seeing a dusty field through them, they open up to this electric, super-saturated sky. It’s the portal to the show, the gateway to that unique energy. The farm animals—the goat, pig, and chicken—are like the stoic guardians of that portal. They're not cartoonish; they're the real, prize-winning heart of the county fair, grounding the whole surreal scene. The little 'Grand Champion' ribbon is my quiet nod to that culture, a small inside joke for those who look closely. It's my tribute to the blue-collar roots and the far-out sounds that make these shows so special.
