Note From the Artist
My inspiration for this print, "Skyline Mirage, Flock in the Wake," truly began with the magical 'blue hour' over Northerly Island. I aimed to capture that elusive moment when day softens into night, reflecting the dynamic energy of Goose against the serene, iconic Chicago skyline.
The heart of this design is the magnificent flock of stylized geese, caught mid-flight in a sweeping, spiraling 'V' formation. Their forms are simplified, almost geometric, yet they retain a graceful fluidity that speaks to the band's precision and flow. As they arc through the twilight sky, leaving behind subtle trails like abstract rigging, they symbolize the journey and the collective spirit of the band and its audience.
Beneath this celestial dance, Lake Michigan becomes a vibrant canvas. The Chicago skyline shimmers in a crystalline yet slightly elastic reflection, emphasizing the open-air beauty of the Huntington Bank Pavilion. One of my favorite unique details is how the geese's flight path creates concentric ripples on the water, subtly morphing into the band's name, "Goose," as if etched directly into the lake's surface. This integration of typography into the natural elements was a joy to create, giving the logotype a semi-submerged, almost ethereal quality.
The color palette is crucial: a split-fountain gradient of cool aqua transitioning to deep indigo sets a dreamlike, expansive mood, punctuated by warm coral and amber accents in the distant moon and building glints. These touches of warmth are like the promise of the music about to begin. You'll also find subtle homages to Chicago, from the prairie grasses framing the scene to a hidden nod to the city flag in the distant navigation buoys along the waterline.
Every detail, from the micro-star glyphs to the wavelet tick marks, invites closer inspection, creating a sense of luminous calm just before the first downbeat under an open sky. This print is a synthesis of Art Nouveau elegance with modern geometric sensibilities, designed to evoke lakeside memories and the vibrant connection between music, nature, and the city.
